Sarah Perry

Sarah Perry was born in Essex, and now lives in Norwich, a UNESCO World City of Literature. She was a UNESCO World City of Literature Writer in Residence in Prague (in January and February 2016), representing Norwich.

She has a PhD in Creative Writing and the Gothic, and her first novel, After Me Comes the Flood, was published in 2014. It won the East Anglian Book of the Year award, and was long listed for the Guardian First Book Award and the Folio Prize. Her essays and criticism have been published in the Guardian, the Spectator, the Independent and Slightly Foxed. Her second novel, The Essex Serpent, was published in June 2016.

Sarah's writing has been called 'modern Gothic', and while she was in Prague she was working on her third novel Melmoth, which is partly set in Prague and draws on the city's 'Bohemian Gothic' atmosphere.

Every morning in Prague, she fed the jackdaws on Charles Bridge.
