Danielle Dussault

Quebec author Danielle Dussault writes, paints, plays the piano and sings. She organizes seminars on creative writing. She has taught for more than 25 years and published several novels, short stories and poetic stories. Her work revolves around the human nature and emphasizes the fragility of bonds and their complexity. This is also confirmed by La troisième personne, her latest novel, which tells the story of three women who at one moment found themselves on the banks of a river. Through a long inner walk, Danielle Dussault offers anything but a conventional novel, carried by the voices of three powerful women, separated but united by their pursuit of freedom. The river undeniably joins them.

In 2003 she was awarded the Alfred-Desrochers Award for her story L'imaginaire de l'eau, published in L'instant même. For her novel Anderson’s Inn, she won the Thetford Mines Award in 2017 where Danielle Dussault also lives and participates in the cultural life. The novel tells us the story of William Anderson, who, after returning from the Vietnam War in 1967, returns to an island off the coast of New England.

Danielle Dussault also received an honorable mention of the Robert-Cliche competition for her novel Camille ou la fiber de l'amiante, published by VLB Editor in 2000.

Danielle Dussault is particularly interested in the production of audio e-books, she also tries to build bridges between languages and a diverse cultural background, and she also wants to continue this activity during her stay in Prague. She has led writing workshops for the Françoise Sagan Multimedia Library in Paris and Vermont. She presented excerpts from her work in the Museum of Czech Literature in Prague during her reading evening in July 2019. In January and February 2020, she participates in the creative residential programme in Prague as a part of the Prague UNESCO City of Literature project.
